Is it worth it?

 Is it worth it?

Is the life of an entrepreneur worth the time and effort? It is human nature to create, we are children of a God that is the ultimate creator. As his children, we have the desire and ability to create. However, most people feel satisfied with creating wealth or things for others. Personally, I think this is ok, but what are they really missing? Why did they choose this path?

I have 6 children ranging in age from 22 to 2. My two oldest children are already successful entrepreneurs and are working on their traditional education. Why did they choose to be an entrepreneur?

I believe that they were shown how hard work and creativity can be so rewarding. They have built into themselves self-motivation and the ability to analyze risk and not be afraid to face it.

If I had any advice for anyone that chooses to be an entrepreneur, it would be this:

1)      Get a mentor- You will come up with some great ideas and share them with people that have no idea about business or developing a business. They may give you an opinion but that is all it is, an opinion. When you get a mentor that has succeeded, they will be able to help you through the process and help you avoid some misery.

2)      Learn to analyze risk- Many people can’t face risk without stopping them from moving forward. They see only failure in their mind or the obstacles that stand before them.  They can’t look past them to see what is on the other side. It will stop you until you can see the risk and work around it.

3)      Learn to use failure to your advantage- The reality is that every entrepreneur will fail in one form or another. A successful entrepreneur learns how to get back up and learn from mistakes. When you get up from a failure it may be even more difficult than it was before you failed. However, you gained some knowledge that you may have never learned any other way.

4)      Have confidence in God- We often think that God only gives us inspiration when it involves his work only. This is so far from the truth. We have an eternal father that wants us to succeed.  The cool part is that he knows all. When we ask he will answer, even in business.

5)      Learn to balance your life- You will face difficult decisions between business and family. You must already have guardrails set that will guide your decisions.

6)      Gain knowledge in any form- We live in a time that knowledge is at your fingertips. Always seek knowledge in every form you can. I gained most of my business knowledge from audiobooks because that was all the time, I was able to give it. But I learned valuable information from the great books on business.

The life of an entrepreneur is not easy, but I can tell you it is very satisfying.
